Cubbies - sparks - T & T - Trek – Journey
(3 year olds thru 12th grade)

AWANA means “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed” from 2 Timothy 2:15 "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

We offer the following clubs: Cubbies for pre-kindergarten, Sparks for kindergarten-2nd grade, T & T for 3rd-6th grade, and Journey for 7th-12th grade.

Club nights start with 6:15 check-in time. Opening prayer and worship begin at 6:25. Large group is at 6:31. Small group/games 6:56-7:55.

Awana has continued to improve the handbooks our children use to encourage them to keep growing in their faith and knowledge of Christ beyond their time with us. This years focus was Cubbies and we are very excited about the positive changes that have been made including a CD that comes with each handbook to help our Cubbies remember their verses where ever they are. There are parents pages that do need to be read and signed. We will have contest incentives again this year to encourage consistent daily quiet time with God and working on their memory verses.

We follow the 5 principles of Awana:

  • Awana is centered on the gospel

  • Scripture memory is key

  • Awana is exciting and fun

  • Children and youth are trained to serve

  • Awana is built on strong leadership

We do this through:

  • Large Group Time:

consists of praise and worship, Bible teaching, awards, announcements, and a presentation of God's plan of salvation.

  • Game Time:

is comprised of exciting circle games exclusive to Awana that are a popular draw for churched and non-churched children alike.

  • Handbook Time:

provides small-group interaction and recitation of Scripture that kids learned during the week. It also features friendship building and opportunities for leaders to mentor children and help them understand the Bible verses they learn. The handbooks are purchased through Awana.

The Cubbies (ages 3 through pre-kindergarten)

curriculum features two handbooks. Both are written in a fun, storybook style with read-aloud stories and lovable characters that appeal to preschoolers.

The AppleSeed and HoneyComb handbooks combine basic Scripture memory with parent-child activities to help Cubbies grasp simple biblical truths. Each Cubbies handbook contains a helpful review CD to use at home. One handbook is completed in a club year. Each handbook contains twenty-six Bear Hug sections along with four special-day sections.

Sparks (kindergarten through 2nd grade)

curriculum is comprised of three handbooks. Each handbook builds a foundation of biblical wisdom through memory verse drills, crafts, activities and review of key doctrine and Bible facts.

Before working in the first handbook, HangGlider (Genesis through Joshua), all newcomers to Sparks will complete an entrance booklet – Flight 3:16 – that centers on the gospel message of John 3:16. WingRunner (Judges through the birth of Christ) and SkyStormer (ministry of Christ through Revelation) handbooks challenge Sparkies to learn about fifteen more verses than the preceding book.

Each handbook includes an audio CD available either in iTunes or Google Play Music with readings of all the Bible biographies, memory verses, and character stories.

Truth & Training (3rd - 5th grade)

Grace in Action: lessons dive into the Grace Life Thread. Kids learn about who God is, what the Bible is, who Jesus is, and how to live out their faith.

Evidence of Grace: in which kids will continue to explore fundamental doctrines of Christianity. Learning about the nature of God, structure and sequence of the Bible, and more.

Agents of Grace (this year’s book): children discover how to be Agents of Grace by learning about the attributes of God, the importance of biblical theology, and the seven “I AM” statements of Jesus Christ from the Gospel of John.

Discovery of Grace: kids explore the meaning of God’s grace and how it affects our lives. Topics include attributes of God, why God gave us the Bible, Jesus’ death and resurrection, and the fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23.

Awana Trek header.png

Trek® (6th - 8th grade)

His Story*: “Who are you?” The only way to answer this was to place them in the larger story that God is telling through scripture. Trek 1 focuses on four big concepts in a framework called “Redemption History.” The four big concepts are Creation, The Fall, Redemption, and Consummation. It allows them to work through the entire scripture and understand the big story God is telling, not only about the world but what God is telling about them as well. challenges middle-school students to consider their destiny in Christ and pursue it through life application of God's Word.

His Love*: We want students to wrestle with the question, “Why am I here?” Our desire is for them to know God placed them here to serve and love other people. Jesus is the perfect example of what this life of service looks like. With Trek 2, students will not only discover why God put them there, but how He has given them unique gifts and talents to serve the world around them.

His People*: focuses on Biblical community as told through the Book of Acts, and has students asking themselves the question, “Who is with me?”

Charting the End Times: This year we will be going through the book of this title by Tim LaHaye and the accompanying study guide to gain a clear picture of Bible prophecy and the timing of the events and their relationship to one another.

The Armor of God (this year’s book): Bible study on the biblical description of the believer’s inventory and weekly action plan for putting on our armor and developing a personalized strategy to suit up, stand firm, and secure the victory.

*Each Trek book contains biblically rich content with practical application for the students’ lives. Each lesson includes an activity, lesson, memory verse, and seven days of devotions that help your students understand the Bible. They are reading through the New Testament with the goal of completing reading the New Testament by the end of their 8th grade year.

Awana Journey header.png

Journey® (9th - 12th grade)

Disciples*: The first year of a four-year Journey Bible study experience focuses on what is expected of a disciple who strives to follow Jesus wholeheartedly as presented through scripture.

Advocates*: This handbook considers what it means to hold firm to Biblical convictions and still engage in humble dialogue with the culture around us. Topics include apologetics, logic, worldviews, science, miracles, the resurrection, and doubt.

Romans*: A comprehensive Bible study that helps your students establish a firm foundation for their faith as they cover sin, the Law, the righteousness of God, faith, and the work of the Holy Spirit.

God-colored Glasses*: Students will be challenged to explore their worldview. How can they form a Biblical worldview and how do they apply that to their life?

Evidence That Demands a Verdict: This year we will be going through the book of this title and the accompanying study guide by Josh McDowell and Sean McDowell, PhD, to be better equipped to answer the questions and objections others raise regarding our faith.

The Guts of Grace (this year’s book): This study focuses on sound teaching and mentoring believers to develop and maintain a more passionate and intimate love relationship with Christ, to effectively share the Gospel of Salvation with the lost, and to disciple other believers. This year we will be going over hermeneutics and free grace.

Each book consists of Bible study lessons with introduction activities to help launch students into the Core Concepts for each week, Bible passages, Core Verses, and much more. As they go through these study materials, they are also reading through the Old Testament with the goal of having read through the Bible in its entirety by the end of their senior year.

Samples of all the curriculum are available either at Grace Bible Church or found online at www.awana.org.
