04: Foundational Frameworks Part 4 (June 25, 2017)

Foundational Truths: The Bible is God’s self-revelation.
God is the only Eternal, Sovereign Creator.
Angels are creatures, created good, as servants of God.

Isaiah 45:18-19. The Creator has purpose in creating! His Word is truth and it apparent for all to see (creation contains information).

The Basics of Bible Study

  1. Prayer- Without the Spirit’s illumination there will be no transformation.
  2. Observe, Observe, Observe- Marking the “who, what, when, where, why, and how,” identifying verbs, and noting repetition help in establishing the subject, object, and motivations for any text. You can never “over-observe.” You will always find new insights!
  3. Interpretation- “What was the author’s meaning when he wrote this passage?” If we don’t have that, we do not have the Word of God. The more time spent in observation, the better our interpretation. Context and key words are critical! Cultural barriers, genres, and the parties involved clarify the author’s original intent in writing.
  4. Application- The Bible was not meant to inflate heads, but to change lives, and only Bible changes people. This is not always found in our actions (although that is important), but will always be found in our thinking. The Bible tells us about reality (truth) and should influence our thinking every time. With right thinking comes right action.

Genesis 1:1-25. Time to observe, observe, observe….
